Patterson Library Story Time Garden and Healthy Living Series

In an effort to help their community learn to live a healthier lifestyle, the Patterson Library in Putnam County, NY, started their "Story Time Garden" in June 2009. This year, the library has expanded their garden-based programming to include a "Healthy Living" series. This series includes nutrition lectures, cooking classes, exercise programs and an expanded collection of books and resources to help community members of all ages develop and embrace a healthier lifestyle.

Nourishing NYC's Junior Chef Program

Nourishing NYC is a community food program located in East Harlem that seeks to provide nutrition for all. Among their many and varied programs for children, adults and seniors, the organization offers the Junior Chef program, a culinary arts and nutrition education program for children ages 6-13, as well as a Teen Chef program for teenagers ages 14-18.

Learn how students in The Junior Chef program are teaching their families about healthy eating while learning about the hospitality industry, from prep to plate.

Ms. Reed Brings School Lunch to Life in the Classroom

When elementary school teacher Beth Reed at PS 146 in East Harlem heard that her school cafeteria would be serving Rachael's NYC Sizzling Soft Taco with Southwest Roasted Chicken and Corn Relish and Vegetarian "Veg-Head" Beans as part of Yum-o!'s collaboration with the New York City Department of Education's Office of SchoolFood, she was inspired to bring the experience into the classroom.
