What is your favorite nutritious dish to make with family or friends?

Cooking with the kids is very important, as it gives them quality time with you. They also enjoy cooking because they get to eat what they have cooked. As far as getting them involved, I have them help with measuring ingredients. I also ask them what they would like to cook, or we cook one of their favorite meals. This helps them get more excited about taking part in preparing the meal.

As for a favorite dish, we have lots of them! Something that I like to do is to share a family recipe with my kids and let them help to prepare it. When we’re done, I will give them a copy of the recipe so it will be like passing down this recipe to them. This lets them know how special recipes are and teaches them the values of cooking.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE DISH YOU REMEMBER EATING AS A CHILD?

The most favorite cake I remember eating as a child is cassava cake.

DO YOU HAVE THE RECIPE?

Yes, I'd love to share it!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHILDHOOD MEMORY INVOLVING COOKING AND EATING TOGETHER WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS?

I remember one day cooking with my grandmother in the kitchen. It was one of the most special days I've shared with her, watching her cook one of my favorite curry dishes, curry chicken, for me. She cooks the best curry chicken! It always made me happy when she cooked it for me and let me help her gather the ingredients by going to the garden and picking the herbs she needed, and also when she let me help her clean up as we prepared the dish.

WHAT TIPS OR ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR SOMEONE WHO IS NEW TO THE KITCHEN OR JUST GETTING THEIR KIDS INVOLVED IN THE KITCHEN?

  1. Gather all the ingredients for the recipe before starting on the meal.
  2. Do not be frustrated because you are new to cooking. Everyone has to start out cooking a first dish!
  3. Follow the correct measurements of ingredients according to the recipe.
  4. Clean up as you're cooking, because it will be easier for you to get the job done without any frustration.
