Brian Furrer’s Food Drive

November 30, 2009  •

After volunteering with his mother at their local food bank, 10-year-old Brian Furrer from Lincoln, CA saw how quickly the food was running out and decided to organize a week-long food drive to help restock the shelves.

Brian brought collection boxes from classroom to classroom at his school and personally counted all the cans his fellow students contributed. The first year, he delivered 1,300 cans to The Salt Mine, a soup kitchen and “food closet” in his community, and this year’s drive topped it with 1,872 cans!
