5-2-1-0 Goes to School is part of an overarching program called Let’s Go!, which promotes a healthy lifestyle for kids from birth to age 18 by partnering with others across six sectors: early childhood, schools, communities, workplace, after-school and healthcare.

While the Let’s Go! organization is based in Portland, Maine, 5-2-1-0 Goes to School has been so successful that 71 sites across the nation have adopted their own versions of the program! Aimed at increasing healthy eating and physical activity in the school environment, the program endorses the “5-2-1-0” message, which emphasizes the importance of:

By using the toolkits and resources within the Let’s Go! 5-2-1-0 Goes to School framework, schools, teachers, nutrition programs and parents can create a healthier school environment. As exemplified by Cheryl Dixon, the food service manager at Horace Mitchell Primary School in Kittery, Maine, the 5-2-1-0 framework can be combined with other components, such as Farm to School programs and environmental education. In addition, the program’s website has information for childcare and after-school programs, as well as tips and tools for parents who want to encourage healthy eating habits and more physical activity in their families.
