Shawn Demartino is Cooking Smart!

May 1, 2008  •

Growing up, Shawn DeMartino, of Yarmouthport, MA, struggled with being overweight. He reached his turning point at age 11, when he collapsed running the mile at his school’s field day. He credits Rachael Ray’s 30 Minute Meals and “the idea that you can make healthy foods easily” in getting him started cooking for himself and changing the way he was eating. He’s now teaching others to do the same.

Shawn hopes to host his own cooking show on television, which he plans to call “Cook It Smart.” He cooks every night, and observes that, “Through cooking, you learn to eat right, which stays with you for your whole life. If you start cooking as a kid, most times you keep those habits.” In the meantime, he’s having fun practicing cooking for his entire family and showing off his tasty, healthy meal ideas to his friends.
