Teaming Up with FoodCorps for Healthier Schools

June 10, 2014  •

1 in 5 children in the U.S. struggle with hunger, while 1 in 3 is obese or overweight. The root cause is the same: lack of access to and knowledge about healthy food. To encourage a healthier future, Rachael Ray’s Yum-o! Organization has joined forces with FoodCorps in their work to connect kids to real food and help them grow up healthy.

FoodCorps’ leaders dedicate a year of public service to transforming the school food environment. They lead hands-on gardening and cooking lessons and connect local farmers with school food service directors to bring high-quality local food into school cafeterias. In addition to supporting FoodCorps in these efforts, Yum-o! is launching the Yum-o! FoodCorps Leadership Award to recognize one outstanding service member for making a difference in the community.
